What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants provide a foundation for a replacement tooth that will function the same as a natural tooth. When an implant is installed, our patient will regain their ability to eat any type of food and will be able to have a confident smile again with healthy, natural looking teeth. Implants are small titanium screws placed into the jawbone where any teeth are missing. The jawbone then bonds with the titanium that will create a solid foundation for the new artificial replacement teeth. Dental Implants will help prevent bone deterioration that can occur when any teeth are missing. If you have a missing tooth, it is important to contact Dr. Clark today for an appointment.

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots that are surgically positioned into the jaw beneath your gums. Once implants are in place, your dentist is provided with a strong foundation and can mount replacement teeth onto the implants. There are several advantages to dental implants, including improved appearance, speech and comfort; easier eating, durability, and convenience.

For some, ordinary bridges and dentures are not comfortable or even possible due to a variety of reasons. With dental implants, there is no need for adjacent teeth to be prepared or ground to hold a new replacement tooth, which is another advantage of implants.

Our Dental Implant Procedure

Step 1:
For almost all of our patients, dental implants will involve two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first 12-24 weeks after surgery, the implants will gradually start to bond with the jawbone. You can wear temporary dentures and you will eat soft foods during the duration. Meanwhile, we will design the final bridgework or denture, which will ultimately improve both function and aesthetics.

Step 2:
Once the titanium implant bonds to the jawbone, the second step of the implant procedure will begin. Dr. Clark will start making your new teeth after an impression has been taken. Then the posts or attachments will be attached to the implants. The replacement teeth are then made over the posts or attachments. The entire process and procedure will take six to eight months. Most patients will not have their daily life interrupted during the process.
